People believed that water, fire, earth, and air made up the elements. The also believed that opposite forces helped to keep the 'cosmic balance'. opposites like hot and cold, or wet and dry. ect.

They believed that water, fire, earth, and air made up all of the elements. They couldn't do experiments on it at the time so they believed elements were things that were surrounding them. Opposite forces helped them to keep the cosmic balance.

They believed that there was water, fire, earth, and air. A lot of poeple didn't welcome old ideas at that time. Democritus was one person that recieved mass critisicm for his ideas.

They believed that water, fire, earth, and air were the elements. They had no way to conduct experiments to find any other elements, so they believed the only elements were the ones that were obvious. They also believed that opposite forces kept cosmic balance.

People just thought that water, fire, earth, and air made up the elements. They also believed that matter could be divided into smaller parts. Also opposite forces helped them to keep the cosmic balance.

Water, fire, earth, and air made up the elements. The opposite forces made cosmic balance. They couldnt test anything so they only thought that the elements were ones they could see around them.
