It's important because in chemistry we will be creating new mixtures and solutions and hypothesizing what will happen. We will be doing the same thing in science fair when we hypothesize what we think will happen in our experiments. Like Matt said, it applies science to real life.
We will be thinking about something that is in real life and wondering why this is like this or why this does this, etc. We are applying our science material to real life. What we learn in chemistry or biology or some other science class will help us with our science project.

doing science fair projects is so important for chemistry b/c when you do a science fair project you need to know the steps for the scientific method and in chemistry you do alot of labs and what not so yeah you basically need to know the scientific method and the steps and the procedures and everything. yeahhh also b/c science fair is large portion of your grade =)
